Our Philosophy

Mary and I have been training gun dog's since 1991, and while we have trained dog's of virtually every age, we have found that the best time to train a dog is when they are young.  Many people ask;  Shouldn't we wait until the dog is more mature and physically developed before we put them through the rigorous training process ?  Our answer to that question is no.
A young dog's brain is like a sponge. He or she is just trying to figure out their place in the big world.  They just want to know what is expected of them.  This is the perfect time to start the training process.  If you don't do it now, you will have to do it later, and as the dog gets older, more set in their ways, bigger and stronger, the training process will become much more difficult and take a considerable longer time and Expense to get the job done right.
So Start the training when they are young !!
The next question is;  How young ?  Well, the training process really begins the day you take your dog home.   Most people take their puppy home at 7 to 8 weeks of age and you are going to have to do several things.  For example, you are going to want to house break your dog so there is no "messes" to clean up every day.  If you don't want your dog on the furniture, you are going to have to teach your dog that it is unacceptable behavior to get on the furniture.  If you don't want all your shoes chewed up, you are going to have to teach your dog what is acceptable to chew on and what is not.  You are also going to want to teach some basic obedience commands so you can have control of your dog when you go for walks or to the dog park.  You get the point.  You must begin teaching the dog what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
Now you say;  O.K. Joe, I've done all that.  What is the age you want me to send the dog to you for Full Formal Gun Dog Training ?
The Perfect Age to send us your dog is anywhere from 4 to 6 months old A well rounded and socialized dog of this age is virtually fearless and eager to learn and that is the Optimal time for us to train you dog !
In 3 short months, your dog will learn the following:
    1.  Obedience Commands
         a)  Heel    b)  Whoa/Stay   c)  Come/Here   d)   Kennel
    2.  E-Collar Training
    3.  Introduction to Gunfire
    4.  Introduction to Live Birds
         a)  Staunch on Point
         b)  Steady to Wing
         c)  Steady to Shot
    5.  Field Training
         a)  Whistle Commands
         b)  Hand Signal Commands
         c)  Quartering the field
    6.  Retriever Training
         a)  Field Retrieves
         b)  Water Retrieves
    7.  Hands on Training For the Owner

As you can see, your dog is going to be bombarded with a ton of information in a short period of time; however, because of the dog's age and the developement of the dog's brain at this point of their life and the eagerness of the dog to just want to know where they fit into the grand scheme of things,  He or she will Learn , Understand and Obey what has been taught to him or her !!

If you send us your dog at 4 to 6 months old dog and go through the 3 month training program, you will have a fully trained 7 to 9 month old hunting dog that you are going to be enjoying and creating memories in the field with, at an age when most other people haven't even thought of beginning the training process for their dog !!!

So, our philosophy is simple:  START 'EM YOUNG !!!!

We Look forward to working with you and your dog !!
